In a series of meetings, held during working hours and attended mostly by the businesses using the harbor, the Harbor Users decided to put the Superferry and Cruise Ships on the west side of the harbor (where the small boat ramp and surf break are.)

There were no surfers or Hawaiian cultural experts in attendance at these meetings. The people of Maui had no voice since these meetings were held during the workday and we didn't draw down a big salary for attending.

It appears that small boaters may be restricted as to their parking and access to the small boat ramp.

Cruise Ship companies demanded three docks!

At no time did anyone at the meetings(except Karen Chun) say: Let's just get rid of the Cruise ships from Kahului Harbor since they don't pay their way.

Parking Fees to increase at Kahului Small Boat Ramp?
Can someone explain to me why our resident fishermen have to pay while the cruise ships get subsidized?

Lie # 18 "Hawaii Superferry Capt. Joe Curtis said he is confident the Alakai will not have problems connecting to the barge and ramp regardless of conditions in the harbor. He said the vessel, the largest aluminum vessel of its kind, is well-designed to handle Hawaiian waters, and that similar ferries are used around the globe."

HSF has cancelled Dec 1-6, then Dec 7-12, Dec 26 & 27. But the 3 highschools were out paddling in Kahului Harbor on Dec 27 with no problem. Stranded family gets no help from HSF

Puke Index = ( wave height x 4) + wind speed + vessel speed.

For example:

Large-Capacity "Puke Platform" INDEX vs Puke Status
0-29	No Barfing (except sensitive stomachs)
30-49	No Barfing if Dramamine used
50-89	Barfing even with Dramamine
90+	Vessel Crew Barfs + No one to clean up
