The humpback whales are returning to Hawai’i and may be a little safer as Hawaii Superferry decided to put their second ship out for military contracting instead of opening the Big Island to Oahu route.

With few customers, HSF will drop Tuesday service and all but one of their 2nd daily runs starting December 1.

Gov. Lingle announced she’s cutting education, library and other funding for Maui. Inquiring minds want to know why she’s still paying about $300,000 per year for a tugboat to hold her ill-conceived barge against the dock for the Superferry when our kids’ educations are taking a funding hit? Priorities a little out of whack, Gov?

Meanwhile the Hawai’i Supreme Court is hearing arguments as to whether Act I, the Superferry…er…”large capacity ferry”…bailout bill is unconstitutional.

With HSF main invester John Lehman’s candidate, McCain, falling in the polls, the future of this tax-payer subsidized boondoggle is looking grim. (Lehman is John McCain’s national security advisor).

So for all those who didn’t want to believe that we were being played for suckers so that Lehman could use civilian taxpayer funds to finance his military contracting business…wanna reconsider?
